Are we to paint what's on the face, what's inside the face, or what's behind it?

Femme aux Bras Croisés by Pablo Picasso

There are days when she feels like the woman in the painting.
Her eyes glaze over, she wears no emotion, her shoulders are hunched, her arms form a barrier to her emotions.
She doesn't want anyone to care. She doesn't want to be loved. She wants to feel hideous, hated, despised, unwanted.
Yet, she doesn't.
She doesn't, she doesn't.

Listen to her carefully, you will hear her whisper.
She wants to be cared for, to be loved, to feel beautiful, wonderful, loved, wanted, but, most of all, happy.
Truly, wonderfully, and, radiantly, happy.
